Bangkok Bus Tracking – VIABUS

I take buses quite often here in Bangkok. The main issue I used to have is that there isn’t a reliable timetable. The VIABUS app seems to have solved a lot of problems and has made bus travel in Bangkok much more appealing.

The app shows bus stops as well as where buses currently are along their route.

The app shows a lot of the bus routes in Bangkok and where buses currently are using GPS. The above image is based on my location and lets me know when I should leave home if looking for a specific bus.

Most air-con buses and red buses are covered by the app. Private buses such as the pink 133 which runs down my road aren’t hooked up to GPS yet though.

The bus I use most often is the R26 which goes to Victory Monument directly on the expressway. It only comes every 30 minutes or so which is why this app is great, it saves me waiting in the sun. As you can see on the picture below it shows the locations of all the R26 buses on the route and which directions they’re traveling in.

As you can see from the pictures in this article the app is available in English. This is a great feature as previously the sites I’ve used for Bangkok bus routes have been in Thai, or translated badly.

Whilst the buses in Bangkok aren’t perfect they should be an option for tourists, expats and all Thai people. The new blue A/C buses are great, clean and cheap. There are a lot of routes, some of which are faster than using the BTS or MRT.

Give VABUS a download on your phone and give the bus a go.
