With the new season starting later today in Thailand I wanted to showcase a few ways you can watch the football here in Thailand whether you’re an expat or just visiting on holiday.
At Home – True
True have secured the rights to th EPL for the next three years. They have packages here.
I got mine set up pretty easily over the phone, don’t go into the branches as they don’t always speak English and aren’t as up to date as their phone based staff.
The matches are in English and they have all games available. I’m still waiting to check out their on demand service and other programs but it should be enough to enjoy the games.
Other Football at Home
True do have other football leagues but you can subscribe to BeIn sports for a better choice of non-English football. They used to have the Premier League but lost it this year unfortunately.
Expat / Tourist Bars
The look of surprise on tourist faces when they find out we can watch all the games, even 3pm UK games, live in Thailand is priceless. All ten games every week are available for us to watch and bars are a great place to watch them if you don’t want to stay at home.
There are tonnes of expat and tourist bars in Thailand and most will have the football on. If you want the commentary on then check out specialist sports bars. . Below I have put my ideas and what I have found out but put your recommendations of sports bars in the comments section below as I normally only watch at home.
In Bangkok I normally go to the Sportsman to watch the FA Cup games (not shown on beIn Sports) as they have a huge upstairs area where around 200 people can watch the game. Check out this article by BK about six popular sports bars in Bangkok.
What’s Up Chiang Mai have a good article about 10 sports bars you can try in the city.
I-Rovers gets good feedback in Pattaya as a sports bar.
In general there are hundreds of bars in all of the main tourist areas which will show the games live.
Thai Restaurants / Bars
Thai people love watching the Premier League so you will find it being shown in lots of bars and restaurants around the country. Many Thai places don’t put the sound on or if they do will use Thai commentary. Also bear in mind that in many non-sports bars they probably won’t show all the matches and will just choose the most popular teams here – think Liverpool, Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
How To Watch Premier League Football in Thailand – Questions, Recommendations
As I said put your recommendations for sports bars around Thailand in the comments section below to help others out. If you have any questions I’m happy to help out.
Enjoy the new season!
