Thailand Golf Book

After several months of research and writing I’ve just published my new book: Golf In Thailand.

I had the idea of writing a book for people playing golf in Thailand after not being able to find one myself. Sure there are a few E-books / online magazines out there but they’re all created to sell golf packages and are full of adverts. I wanted to create something impartial and full of information golfers actually want.

Previously I worked for a large golf travel company in the UK so know all about the golf holiday industry. Having lived, and played golf, in Thailand for six years, I know a lot about the game here too. Hand in hand, these two aspects have allowed me to write a book which offers information on the golf travel industry and the game in Thailand that many golfers wouldn’t know or have experienced.

As such I went out to write a book without receiving any incentives (financial or otherwise) from golf courses, hotels and companies in the golf industry. All the advice given is based on my personal experience. Some courses and companies were kind enough to supply photos and information which I greatly appreciate, however they had no say over what was written in the book.

The book covers a range of practical and cultural aspects related to golf in Thailand. I highlight some of the differences to how the game is played here and explain why. There’s a load of practical information such as:

  • How to book tee times
  • How much golf costs
  • Where you can play
  • Some useful phrases to use with your caddie
  • How much to tip your caddie

The book is useful for tourists coming here to play and expats based in Thailand who already play, or are thinking of taking the game up. There are four sections to the book: Planning a trip to play golf in Thailand, Before your round, During your round and After your round.

Whilst I give some tips on courses to play I haven’t gone overboard in this aspect. One thing I noticed through the research for this book was that people have vastly different opinions when it comes to courses. Through my previous job I was lucky enough to play some of the best courses in the world for free but I still appreciate the fun of being on any course, even if it isn’t great. That’s something I try to get through in the book, golf should be an escape and even if you’re not playing the best courses, you can still have a great time. That’s why I talk about the top courses but also give recommendations at lower price points and also give shout out to interesting courses which aren’t so well known.

The book is currently available as an E-book on Amazon ($3.99) and hopefully there will be a paperback version out in the near future online and in stores in Thailand. If you pick up a copy I hope you find it useful!
